Dr. Kokkalis was born in Nafpaktos, Greece. He completed his Undergraduate Education at the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece. Then, he did his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the KAT Accident Hospital, in Athens,where he trained in the field of Orthopaedic Trauma, Sport Injuries, and Reconstructive limb surgery in children and adults.
Following residency, Dr. Kokkalis completed advanced fellowship training in the USA for almost 4 years. He went on a fellowship training program in Reconstructive Microsurgery at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, Virginia, for 2 years. In this fellowship, he trained in pediatric and adult brachial plexus surgery and he executed complex surgical procedures involving reconstruction of brachial plexus and peripheral nerve injuries.
Next, Dr. Kokkalis was appointed as a clinical Fellow in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery, Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery, at Allegheny General Hospital, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, for 18 months. There, he trained in arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, elbow and wrist, reconstructive microsurgery, tendon repair and reconstruction, shoulder and elbow joint arthroplasty, and free vascularized fibular grafting for the treatment of avascular necrosis of the femoral head.
Upon completion of both fellowships in 2009, he worked as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at the First Orthopaedic Department in the “Attikon” University Hospital for almost 3 years, and since 2012, he runs his own practice as well as works as an associate orthopaedic surgeon in private hospitals “Bioclinic” and “Hygeia” Hospital, in Athens.
He published more than 200 papers, presentations and lectures specifically focusing on shoulder and elbow surgery, wrist surgery, brachial plexus andperipheral nerve injuries in children and adults, and osteonecrosis of the femoral head.
Dr. Kokkalis is an Orthopaedic Shoulder Elbow and Hand Specialist and he specializes in adult and pediatric brachial plexus surgery, avascular necrosis of the hip, complex orthopaedic traumatology, and arthroscopy of the elbow and shoulder.
